Recently, a new type of fire-resistant blanket independently developed by cable professionals from State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Research Institute has been successfully applied for the first time on the 10 kV Xu 21 line cable in Xi'an, putting "fire-resistant clothing" on the cable and further improving the reliability of power supply in Xi'an power grid.
Fireproof blanket is a fire-resistant fabric or product wrapped around the surface of power cables and joints, which can provide fire resistance and insulation. It can prevent the cable from breaking down and igniting flammable materials such as optical cables, as well as prevent external fire sources from burning the cable. However, existing ceramic fiber and glass fiber fireproof blankets have disadvantages such as strong water absorption, easy aging, and poor stability.
The cable professional team of State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Research Institute is problem oriented and actively explores the on-site fire prevention needs of 10 kV cable joints and damaged cable bodies. They have developed a new type of fireproof blanket for power cables based on polyimide polymer materials, which has the advantages of good flame retardancy, high breakdown strength, good heat dissipation, non-toxic and environmentally friendly, and strong explosion resistance. After third-party testing, the combustion performance of this new fireproof blanket has reached A1 level (non combustible), and its breakdown strength and other indicators are superior to general fireproof blankets.
During on-site application, technicians used a new type of fireproof blanket to wrap the middle joint and cable body of the 10 kV cable separately, using 4 zip ties for fastening. The wrapping took about 5 minutes, and after wrapping, the fireproof blanket tightly adhered to the middle joint and cable body, with good results. The on-site application achieved the expected results, fully proving that the new fireproof blanket fully meets the actual needs. After standardized training, cable maintenance personnel or construction personnel can independently complete on-site wrapping of fireproof blankets.
Next, State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Research Institute will accelerate the development of fire-resistant blankets without explosion-proof metal lining, further reduce costs, expand applicability, and form a multi size series of fire-resistant blanket products suitable for different scenarios. We will simultaneously promote the transformation and implementation of achievements, fully support the key work of Xi'an power cable and channel management, and contribute to improving the intrinsic safety of cable lines and safeguarding the safe and stable operation of the power grid.
